Patrick Dennis

This Beaux Arts townhouse was home to American author Patrick Dennis in the 1950s. The writer, whose actual name was Edward Everett Tanner III, is possibly best known for being the creator of the “Auntie Mame” books. Auntie Mame was modeled after his own paternal aunt, Marion Tanner. Though he was born in Chicago, Patrick Dennis relocated to New York later in life. His claim to fame in the history books is that he was the first writer to have three books on the New York Times bestseller list.
